Wines

Each year volunteers tend the grapevines on a replica timber trellis throughout the growing season, using modern viticulture methods.

They hand pick the grapes in February and transport them to one of the local wineries.

Six limited release wines are offered for tasting and can only be purchased at Cellar Door. The very popular Portobella is made from the Black Isabella grape in the same wine style as when it was shipped overseas.

Douglas Vale Villard Blanc

This wine is a semi-dry, clean white wine made from the Villard Seyval hybrid known as Villard Blanc, a variety suited to our humid north coast climate.

It has a pleasant lemon and green apple nose, a slight hint of butter through the palate and a long finish that slowly fades away. To be appreciated now. Complements Asian dishes and is best served chilled.

Douglas Vale White Cockatoo

Named after the family’s pet cockatoo, this white wine is a blend of Villard Blanc and Chardonnay.

It is a modern style with a bouquet of passionfruit, peaches and lime and due to the unoaked chardonnay in the blend, has a refreshing crisp palate. To enjoy its freshness it is best consumed young and is ideal served chilled with any seafood dish.

Douglas Vale Cottage Rose

Produced from our Chambourcin grape variety, this wine has a lovely strawberry pink hue and a delicate fresh aroma of citrus and raspberries.

It is a youthful wine that is surprisingly sweet on the palate and should be enjoyed now. It is best served chilled and goes well with spicy Asian food.

Douglas Vale Heritage Red

A blend of Chambourcin and Shiraz varieties. The rich fruity aromas of  Chambourcin combine well with plum and black pepper from the Shiraz grown in our moderate climate.

This robust red is a full bodied wine with a subtle oak finish that lingers on the palate. A very traditional style it can be enjoyed with a good steak or meat dish now or may be cellared for up to 5 years.

Douglas Vale Portobella
